Babies are always hearing two languages since in the womb tend to be more open in bilingual communication. Conclusions according to the researchers.
The scientists did tests on two groups of newborn infants. The first group is the baby who only listen to the English language when in the womb and the second group is heard English and Tagalog.
To determine trends in the language of babies, researchers examined sucking reflex. Sucking reflex increased interest indicate that infants in the stimulus given.
In the first experiment, infants heard a conversation for 10 minutes. The language used every minute alternating between English and Tagalog. Baby of the group that heard only English language is more interested in the English language than Tagalog.
In contrast with infants of the bilingual group showed the same preferences, both when exposed to English or Tagalog. In addition, the researchers also tested whether the babies know the difference between the two languages.
It turned out to hear a language other than known so far, such as hearing Tagalog language, the baby’s sucking reflex increased. This shows, they understand that the language they hear is a foreign language.
The researchers concluded, the baby turned out to understand differences in language. Therefore, families who have two different languages are advised to teach the two languages used by both parents as early as possible, for example by taking baby converse in two languages simultaneously.
